A round of golf is going to help spread Christmas cheer this year.

The Kingfisher Golf Association in conjunction with the Kingfisher Chamber of Commerce recently held its sixth annual Benefit Golf Tournament.

When the tournament wrapped up, local club pro Gary Wilson presented Kingfisher Police Department Chief David Catron with an $8,000 check.

The funds included $5,853 raised from the tournament, an additional $1,647 from the Kingfisher Golf Association and $500 from the chamber.

Later, the Kingfisher Women’s Golf Association presented another $1,200 to Catron.

The $9,200 will go a long way in providing funds for this year’s Christmas With a Cop.

That program, in its third year, allows the department to take 12 local, qualified children Christmas shopping for their families and themselves.

“It’s a great program that provides a great service to our community,” Wilson said.

“We were proud as an association to be able to help contribute to it this year.”

The association has been helping raise funds for various benefits for six years now.

All told, through its benefit tournament, its own donations and extra donations from local golfers, nearly $60,000 have been raised over the years.

The chamber joined in the effort beginning last year.

The goal of Christmas With a Cop is to raise up to $12,000 for this year’s event.

As with past years, it will soon begin selling t-shirts to help close the gap.

“The police department wants to thank with deepest gratitude the Kingfisher Golf Association/ Kingfisher Chamber golf tournament and the Kingfisher Women’s Golf Association for the very generous contributions to this event,” Catron said.

“Without great community-minded organizations like these, this would not be possible to bring some Christmas joy to 12 lucky children and their families.”
