City commission clears way for new 74-house addition

A new housing addition is in the works for Kingfi sher.

City commissioners last Monday moved on a previous recommendation from the planning and zoning board to approve the preliminary plat of Hanna’s Place.

The 74-lot addition was given unanimous approval by the commission.

It is being developed by Mike Matthews, who said Blake Pyle will build the homes.

Both were at the meeting.

Hanna’s Place will sit west of 13th Street and south of Will Rogers Drive.

There will be two entrances into the addition.

One is off of 13th Street between the First United Methodist Church and Lifeway Church.

The other is 17th Street going south from Will Rogers.

Matthews said the project was put on hold for about a year as they worked with engineers to solve potential drainage issues.

He told commissioners all those issues have been solved. He added the addition will also be adequately served by a sanitary main that was recently installed in that area.

Matthews told the Times & Free Press the phase of the plan is to “start moving dirt,” though it could take a few weeks for that to begin.

Also during the March regular meeting, commissioners voted to approve a pay stipend for Acting City Manager Brittney Hladik.

Hladik was previously city clerk, but took on the new role after previous City Manager Dave Slezickey moved into that same role at The Village.

The stipend will be retroactive to Feb. 15 when Hladik officially took over and will continue until a new city manager is hired.

The city will cover the costs of the annual Fourth of July fireworks display.

Commissioners agreed to a contract with Western Enterprises Inc. for $17,160. Hladik said the cost is the same as last year.

Also approved was the fire department’s REAP grant for the purchase of a drying unit for its bunker gear. The grant allows the department to be reimbursed for the purchase.
