City hears favorable report from auditor

The City of Kingfisher’s independent auditor called his firm’s findings “clean” when making his report to the commission.

“I didn’t have any findings,” said Chuck Crooks, a CPA with CBEW Professional Group, which prepared the audit for the 2022 fiscal year.

Crooks delivered his report to commissioners Monday night during their February regular meeting.

The audit covered the city’s financial statements, internal controls over financial reporting as well as over major programs.

The summary of the auditor’s results - provided at the end of a 91-page report - marked absolutely no findings.

“If there were findings in internal control and compliance on the test work that we did, it would let you know the issues there,” Crooks said. “There are no findings listed.”

City Manager Dave Slezickey noted the city staff faced some challenges when accounts payable clerk Jeanne Duffy unexpectedly passed away in May 2022.

He commended the work of the likes of City Treasurer Anita James and Denise Payne, the utility billing director and deputy city treasurer, among others.

“They were able to keep everything functioning through that,” Slezickey said.
