City holds off on manager hire
Commissioners vote to table selection to continue gathering info
Kingfisher doesn’t yet have its new city manager.
Commissioners on Monday tabled an item calling for the hiring of that position at the end of their special meeting.
The meeting was posted last Thursday after commissioners on Wednesday interviewed two candidates for a total of about four-and-a-half hours in an executive session of a special meeting.
The agenda Monday called for an executive session “to discuss the employment, hiring and/ or appointment of the city manager.”
Commissioners met for about 75 minutes in that executive session.
The lone action item on the agenda was “to hire and enter into a contract with a new city manager.”
However, that item was tabled on a motion by Dawn Taylor that was seconded by Kyle Mecklenburg.
Geoff Covalt and Debbie Burpo voted in favor of tabling to make it unanimous. Mayor Roxie Alexander didn’t attend the meeting.
Commissioners after Monday’s meeting didn’t specify why no hire was made.
According to City Attorney Jared Harrison: “They are continuing the process to make sure they have all the information they need to make their final decision.”
The next regular meeting of the city commission is July 10, though another special meeting can be called before then if commissioners are ready to make a hire.
Commissioners are seeking the replacement for Dave Slezickey, who resigned earlier this year to take the same position at The Village.
The commission hired Oklahoma Municipal Management Services (OMMS) to aid in the search for a new manager at a fee of $12,000 plus expenses.
The application process closed March 31.
Meantime, the commission voted City Clerk Brittney Hladik as acting city manager until a new hire was made.
