City takes steps to find Slezickey’s successor
Kingfisher’s city commission accepted the resignation of its city manager Wednesday and began the process of finding his replacement.
Commissioners met for just over 40 minutes in executive session during a special meeting at City Hall.
Afterward, they unaninmously voted to accept Dave Slezickey’s resignation.
Slezickey tendered his resignation the Wednesday before. He has accepted the same position with The Village in Oklahoma City.
He has served Kingfisher since being hired in May 2012.
Voting were Mayor Roxie Alexander, Vice Mayor Wendell Prim and commissioners Kyle Mecklenburg and Geoff Covalt.
Kingfisher is currently minus one commissioner after Ryan Deatherage resigned his seat late last year.
An election will be held April 4 to fill that vacant seat as well as that of Prim, who will meet a two-consecutive term limit.
The commission also set another special meeting for 5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23.
The agenda calls for another executive session “pertaining to the employment, hiring or appointment of a city manager.”
The agenda also has an item for discussion and possible action on an acting city manager.
Commissioners will also vote to hire Oklahoma Municipal Managment Services to aid in the search process for a full-time manager.
Slezickey’s current contract with the city calls for 90 days’ notice should he leave his position.
That date is April 10. However, Slezickey does have accrued vacation and leave that could move up that date.
