Commission, Slezickey hone in on incentive provisions
Kingfisher city commissioners met two hours in executive session to discuss the parameters of a new clause in City Manager Dave Slezickey’s contract during a special meeting Thursday, July 14.
Slezickey participated in the first hour of the closed session and then stepped out while the discussion continued an other hour.
The topic of discussion was a new clause commissioners added in Slezickey’s contract approved at the regular July meeting which provides for incentive pay over and above his regular salary.
The provision requires commissioners to agree on three specific goals or projects for Slezickey to achieve within the year to earn the incentives.
While Thursday’s meeting adjourned with no vote taken, Slezickey told The Times and Free Press Monday that he believed a decision would be made at the August meeting.
“I think they have a better idea on the incentive,” he said. “I’m still not sure how they want to do it, but I think they set three goals: developing and coaching subordinates and performance evaluations for all employees; secure additional external funding (grants etc); and implement a system to increase community outreach to be able to provide data and information for decision making.”
Slezickey described the meeting as “very productive” and said a strong finish to the financial year allowed the city to shift a sizable amount of money to its existing capital im provement fund.
“As we closed out the fiscal year, transferring $1.4 million to capital improvement funds for a total capital improvement fund balance of about $3 million and have an all-time record high fund balance of almost $9 million,” Slezickey said.
“So we’re ready to start pushing forward on some things that we slowed down during COVID.”
