Company rates state roads 16th worst in nation
An online consumer information company recently rated Oklahoma’s roads among the bottom third in the nation for 2021.
ConsumerAffairs.com rated Oklahoma’s roads as the 16th worst, based on four factors: dollar amount spent per mile of roadway, percentage of “poor” road conditions, annual motor crash fatalities and an email survey of motorists in each state.
The 10 states with the worst roads, according to the analysis, were Rhode Island, Hawaii, Wisconsin, California, Massachusetts, South Dakota, New Jersey, Louisiana, Michigan and New York.
The company’s analysis cited weather conditions and low infrastructure budgets as leading to potholed and hazardous roads in those states.
Meanwhile, the analysis identified Kansas, Alabama, North Dakota, Kentucky, Florida and Idaho as the top five states for road quality.
The analysis considered the percentage of roads the Federal Highway Administration graded as being in poor condition.
Based on that data, 6% of Oklahoma’s rural roads and 12% of its urban streets are graded as being in poor condition.
