County assessor completes CTP
Kingfisher County Assessor Carrie Turner has completed the County Assessor Certification program conducted by the County Training Program (CTP) at Oklahoma State University (OSU). The CTP is part of the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service at Oklahoma State University and is mandated by state statute and authorized under the Commission on County Government Personnel Education and Training.
Turner completed 63 hours of instruction to earn her certification. Turner was honored at the County Assessors Association of Oklahoma 2023 annual conference, held recently in Norman.
The OSU CTP, in conjunction with the County Assessors Association of Oklahoma, instituted a certification program for county assessors and their deputies which requires a minimum of 63 hours of coursework for county assessors and first deputies and a minimum of 39 hours for all other deputies.
Course work for assessors and their deputies encompasses subjects such as budget process, assessor duties, purchasing procedures, managing personnel, basic mapping, and more.
Instructors from OSU teach these classes at various locations throughout the state, including on the university’s campuses in Stillwater and Tulsa.
In addition to county assessors, the OSU staff also conducts dozens of classes each year for other county officer certification/accreditation programs.
Many of the courses, which are usually taught in a classroom setting for 2550 people, are attended by representatives from each of the elective and appointive departments of county government.
Some classes are offered asynchronously online, allowing participants to complete the course at their own convenience.
