County gets ‘twisted’ this week
No severe weather predicted, but areas will see tornado movie being filmed
Dirt Road Films will be filming scenes for a new release in portions of Kingfi sher County this week.
The local movie plans came to light at Monday’s meeting of county commissioners, which contained an agenda item entitled: Road Maintenance/Repair Agreement between the BOCC (board of county commissioners) and Dirt Road Films LLC.
District 1 Commissioner Jeff Moss said the agreement was included for the unlikely event of damage to roads or equipment during the filming process.
Much of the filming will be done in District 1, particularly in the Big 4 area.
A filming schedule listed these sites (Note: The number below corresponds with the numbered area on the graphic to the right):
1. E770 Road between NS2930 and NS2940.
2. E780 and NS2930.
3. E790 near NS2900.
4. N2940 between E780 and E790 and N2950 and E790.
5. E800 and NS2930. 6. E790 near NS2880 and NS2890.
The company declined to reveal the shooting dates, explaining it is a closed set.
The Big 4 Fire Department is included in the filming schedule, according to the company map provided to county commissioners.
Moss said he understood the scenes would be used in an upcoming tornado film.
Filming for the movie “Twisters” is taking place in Oklahoma City this week.
“Twisters” is the follow- up to the 1996 hit “Twister,” which was also filmed in Oklahoma.
That movie starred, most notably, Helen Hunt and the late Bill Paxton.
Among those tabbed to star in “Twisters” is Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell.
According to the Okarche Police Department, the filming was taking place south of town (in Canadian County) on Tuesday morning.
This was posted on the OPD’s Facebook page: “Traveling to El Reno…you will need to continue east on NW Expressway past the El Reno exit and then use ‘old 81 access’ to travel south. (Please pay attention traveling south from Okarche.) Please be patient with any additional traffic.
“Filming for the new movie “Twister” (sic) started early this morning. Hollywood has commandeered Griesel Ford building just south of town.”
Other county action
Commissioners also reviewed the Kingfisher County property list for insurance purposes through the Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma (ACCO).
On recommendation of Chairman Heath Dobrovolny, District 3, the value for the new Kingfisher County Jail was raised from $8,858,000 to $11 million.
Dobrovolny said ACCO would cover losses at 25% above assessment value in case replacement was needed.
They approved bidding for asphalt overlay work in all three districts as follows:
