County man faces fentanyl charge

By

A home visit by a parole officer has seen a Kingfisher County man jailed on a felony drug charge after fentanyl was allegedly found in his home.

Charged Aug. 20 in Kingfisher County District Court was Joshua Joe Maddox, 42, of Hennessey.

He faces a felony count of aggravated trafficking in illegal drugs and a misdemeanor of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to court records, his appearance date has not been set.

Maddox did have a cost hearing scheduled Aug. 26 in front of Associate District Judge Lance Schneiter regarding a number of previous charges Maddox had faced.

Those charges were a mix of felonies and misdemeanors including driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of controlled dangerous substance and taking contraband into a jail.

According to the probable cause affidavit with his most recent charge, David Reaves, a probation and parole officer with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, conducted what he termed “a monthly home visit” at the Maddox residence on the morning of Aug. 7.

Reaves stated in the PC affidavit that Maddox “took an unusual amount of time answering the door” and that officers had to verbally command him to do so.

Once inside, according to the affidavit, officers said they immediately saw multiple butane lighters and then, upon closer inspection, also noticed a glass pipe on the bed.

Reaves also wrote in the affidavit there was a container with “white powder substance inside” on the nightstand.

After detaining Maddox in handcuffs, Reaves said he called dispatch for assistance from the Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Office.

As he continued to search the home, deputies tested the powder substance, which was positive for methamphetamine, according to the affidavit.

Once at the Kingfisher County Justice Center, the substance was tested for fentanyl, which also was a positive, according to the affidavit.
