County OKs courthouse lawn display to bring attention to local child abuse

By

Kingfisher County commissioners approved displaying wooden children cutouts on the courthouse lawn to call attention to Child Abuse Awareness Monday at their weekly meeting last Monday.

National Child Abuse Prevention Month, also known as Child Abuse Prevention Month in America, is an annual observance in the United States dedicated to raising awareness and preventing child abuse.

April has been designated Child Abuse Prevention Month in the United States since 1983.

President Barack Obama continued that tradition and in 2016 issued a presidential proclamation stating: “During National Child Abuse Prevention Month, we recommit to giving every child a chance to succeed and to ensuring that every child grows up in a safe, stable and nurturing environment that is free from abuse and neglect.”

( Ed. note: See related story on Page 1 regarding the Fourth Judicial District CASA volunteers who are needed to represent children in Kingfisher County.)

A donation from Bryan Best of Crescent of 3,850 yards of shale from the Best Pit in Logan County to be used in District 1 received unanimous approval on motion of District 1 County Commissioner Jeff Moss and second by District 2 them in voting “yes.”

Those attending the meeting in addition to county commissioners and County Clerk Emily Lee, offi cial minute clerk, included Sheriff Aaron Pitts, County Engineer Nik Smith, Court Clerk Lauren Stroh, and interested visitors Kelly Buck and Keb Lehenbauer.
