County receives healthy dose of weekend rains

By

Rain fell across Kingfisher County over the weekend, supplementing already generous rainfall for this time of year.

Reports ranged from .4 inch at the Okarche Grain and Feed Elevator, eight miles west of Okarche, to 1.6 inches at the Twila Adams residence five miles east of Kingfisher.

Local Weather Observer Steve Loftis reported a weekend total of 1.3 inches at the National Weather Service Station in Kingfi sher.

The cool, wet weekend brought “it’s time for some sunshine and warm temperatures” from one county farmer.

Kingfisher County Extension Director-Agriculture Educator, Bryan Kennedy, eased some concerns when he said the wheat crop is still in good shape and could even use some cooler weather to slow down the development of the more advanced fields.

He noted that the later sown fields improved with the showers.

He said the rainfall while providing improved prospects for small grain fields could possibly lead to disease problems later but added that’s just the risks of farming.

“You can never guess what Mother Nature’s going to throw at you,” he said.

Rainfall reports from around the county included: Hennessey CHS Elevator, 1.2 inches; Cashion Grain and Feed Elevator, 1.4 inches; Okarche Grain and Feed Elevator, .4 inch; Wheeler Brothers Grain Elevator (Omega), .7 inch; Mike Reid, southwest of Kingfisher, .9 inch; Twila Adams, east of Kingfisher, 1.6 inches; Tom Arms, west of Kingfisher, .75 inch; Melissa Knecht, 1.3 miles east of Okarche, 1.3 inches; David Krittenbrink, Okarche, .85 inch; Norman Schoelen, Kingfi sher, .8 inch; Roberta Russell, northwest of Loyal, 1.3 inches; Brenda Bryan one mile south of Hennessey, 1.1 inches; Cathy Howard, Lacey, .6 inch.
