County seeking bids to demolish site of former jail, sheriff’s office

Kingfisher County commissioners approved a solicitation of bids to tear down and remove the old Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Office and jail complex, immediately south of the courthouse at their meeting Monday.

The space will be turned into additional courthouse parking.

The county’s new sheriff’s office and jail at the south edge of Kingfisher supplants the aged facility, which had become a maintenance money pit due to frequent breakdowns and repairs.

Specifications for the work are available at the office of County Clerk Jeannie Boevers.

Bids will be received until 4 p.m. Sept. 9 and will be opened at the commission’s regular meeting Sept. 12.

Commissioners approved requesting and receiving officials for each entity of county government for fiscal year 2023 and Court Clerk Lisa Markus’s record management and preservation monthly report showing a balance of $18,368.07.

Items of equipment to be disposed of via auction were approved for each district as follow:

District 3 – 2018 Caterpillar grader.

District 1 – Caterpillar backhoe and 2000 John Deere dozer.

District 2 – Savin copier, fax and scanner and Savin printer.

A Genasys Mass Notification System received approval at an annual rate of $3,000. County Emergency Management Director Steve Loftis said the system will make it possible to contact the entire county immediately in case of emergency.

Commissioners also approved transfer of a 2017 Ford F150 pickup truck to District 3 from Circuit Engineering District 8 at a cost of $15,900.

Pipeline crossing right-of-way permits were approved as follow:

• K&J Construction – three 12-inch layflat lines, one in District 1 located one mile north and eight miles east of Kingfisher, and two in District 2, one located nine miles east and two miles south of Hennessey and the other five miles east of Dover.

• Devon Energy –temporary three-inch poly line located one mile east and three miles south of Omega, District 3.

• BCE Mach III Midstream – 12-inch poly line located eight miles east of Kingfisher, District 1.

• Ovintiv – three-inch poly line one mile west and one mile north of Okarche, District 3.

Payment of an invoice of $9,300 from Pinnacle Consulting Management Group for property line verification, preparing easements, staking for right-of-way acquisitions for replacement of the Robberts Street Bridge over Uncle John Creek received approval.

Commissioners Heath Dobrovolny of District 3 and Ray Alan Shimanek of District 2 attended the meeting along with Dennis Holmes, District 1 First Deputy in the absence of Jeff Moss who had surgery last Friday.

Also present were Boevers as minute clerk, County Engineer Nik Smith and Loftis, who also reported the county’s COVID cases reached 31 this week, including 14 cases in Kingfisher, 11 in Hennessey and six in Cashion.

Dobrovolny announced a 911 board meeting following the commissioners meeting and a tax roll pretest meeting on Wednesday.
