County tables health department remodel bids due to snow closing
Kingfisher County commissioners tabled the main item on their meeting agenda Monday – opening bids on remodeling work of the new county health department facility.
Commission Chairman Heath Dobrovolny explained that the courthouse was closed Thursday and Friday because of the snowstorm that swept through the county and the deadline to submit bids was Friday afternoon.
Dobrovolny said he solicited legal advice on appropriate action to take to assure fairness to bidders and was advised to accept additional bids through courthouse business hours on Monday.
One bidder representative attended the meeting for the bid opening.
Dobrovolny apologized to the only contractor’s representative attending for the unexpected delay. Bids will be opened at next Monday’s regular meeting.
Commissioners approved monthly reports of the sheriff, county clerk, health department and assessor’s office.
The Oklahoma Health Department’s report of COVID cases in the county remained the same this week at 438 active cases. By community, the COVID case report included: Cashion 56, Dover 24, Hennessey 103, Kingfisher 180, Loyal nine, Okarche 66 and Omega none.
Commissioners reported that county crews were kept busy clearing snow off county roads during the snowstorm, which was accompanied by high winds.
District 1 Commissioner Jeff Moss said he maintained the heater under the new Bowman Street bridge, a job originally assigned to a county road department member, because all hands were busy on snow removal. Heat was required under the newly poured concrete bridge in order for the concrete to cure properly.
District 2 Commissioner Ray Alan Shimanek reported high snow drifts throughout northern Kingfisher, with heavier snowfall both east and west of Hennessey.
County Clerk Jeannie Boevers, who attended the meeting as minute clerk, reported that the state County Officers and Deputies Association (CODA) meeting scheduled last Wednesday in Oklahoma City was canceled by the snow and had been rescheduled for this Wednesday.
Sheriff Dennis Banther also attended the meeting.
