County treasurer, assessor issue 2 deadline reminders
Kingfisher County Treasurer Robin Rother and Assessor Carrie Turner issued some reminders last week about property tax payments and assessments.
Dec. 31 Tax Deadline
Kingfisher County property tax payments for 2022 are trickling in very slowly this year, County Treasurer Robin Rother reported.
Property owners must pay at least half of their 2022 ad valorem tax bills by Dec. 31 to avoid late charges.
But as of Dec. 21, only about 29% of the more than $46 million in total taxes assessed had been paid, Rother said.
Paymentscanbemailed to the treasurer’s office at P.O. Box 148, Kingfisher, 73750, dropped by the office in Room 4 at the county courthouse, 101 S. Main St., or paid online.
Property owners can pay their tax bill in full or defer the second half until March 31.
Asset Statements
All businesses, including corporations, partnerships and professional entities, are required to file a statement of assets owned as of Jan. 1, Turner said.
Business property owners must do so by completing Form 901 Business Personal Property Rendition and return it to the county assessor’s office at the courthouse, she said.
The form requires that all assets, including furniture, fixtures, machinery, equipment and a schedule of monthly inventories be listed, along with their original cost to the business.
“If a business has sold or closed, please indicate on Form 901 and return it to our office,” Turner said. “This information will prevent our office from assessing a business that has closed.”
Each business is required to return a Form 901 by March 15, prepared by an owner, partner, officer of the corporation or a bona fide agent.
Penalties begin to accrue after March 15, starting at 10% of the assessed valuation and increasing to 20% after April 15, Turner said.
