Crescent church collecting truck-full of donations for hurricane victims; Kingfisher companies help

It’s been almost a month since Hurricane Helene unleashed its fury on the people of North Carolina and other hard-hit areas, resulting in catastrophic loss and devastation.

First Baptist Church of Crescent has organized an effort to help those in need and will soon be sending a truck loaded with donations to communities experiencing the hurricane’s impact in North Carolina.

The needs are many and, as temperatures begin to drop, demands for winter supplies are also increasing, FBC missions committee Chairman Jacob Luedecke said.

That’s why the Crescent church wanted to step up...and two Kingfisher companies are helping make it happen.

Lugreg Trucking and Drilling Fluids Technology have combined to donate a truck, trailer and driver to aid in the church’s efforts.

After collecting the much-needed supplies, the truck will make its way to Three Forks Baptist Association in Boone, N.C., where items will be distributed throughout the region.

“We’re a very mission-minded church and we like to focus outwardly and on the people who need it the most,” Luedecke said.

“Several church members expressed that God had really been working on their hearts to donate specifically toward this cause to mobilize and do something that’s larger than ourselves.

“So we took that and ran with it and got as many people involved as we could.”

Along with the local Central Baptist Association, many churches in the community have partnered with FBC Crescent and are helping gather supplies, Luedecke added.

Some of the specific items needed include:

• Blankets, coats and socks (new or lightly used in an assortment of sizes);

• Cases of water; and

• Hygiene products (toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, etc.).

Items can be delivered to FBC Crescent through Thursday, Oct. 31, 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Monetary donations are also being accepted and can be made out to First Baptist Church with “North Carolina Hurricane Relief” in the memo.

The donations are tax deductible.

On Saturday, Nov. 2, supplies will be loaded onto the truck at the church parking lot and it will then be sent on its way to serve those in need.

“ We’re very grateful,” Luedecke said. “We know that God is bigger than all of this and He’s going to work through whatever we decide to donate.

“We’re very hopeful and expectant and we know that through Him we can do great things.”
