Crews make quick work of repairs during forced outage

An issue with the transmission feed from OG&E forced a citywide outage in Kingfisher as well as Okarche last Saturday night.

Both municipalities went dark at about 8:10 p.m. as Kingfisher Electric crews worked to make the repairs at the Industrial Substation just north of Mercy Hospital Kingfisher.

“There was an issue where the incoming transmission feed meets the substation,” said City Manager Dave Slezickey. “Crews had to make repairs at that point and it could not be done while the line was energized.”

City officials alerted citizens and businesses of the impending necessary outage via text message and social media alerts.

Those alerts were sent about an hour prior to the outage. The estimated time for repairs was an hour, according to the alerts.

Power was restored in about 50 minutes.

“Kingfisher Electric had all parts and equipment ready when OG&E disconnected the power in order to expedite the outage,” Slezickey said.
