CTTC staff updates Lions on CDL training, HCC program

Kurt Thomas, Chisholm Trail Technology Center’s administrative manager, and twothirds of the instructors in the school’s Health Careers Certification program spoke at a recent Kingfisher Lions Club meeting. Thomas, right, told Lions the school is currently working on identifying a site to provide Class A CDL training. Amy Estep, left, and Tiffanie Barnett also addressed the members. Barnett is a registered nurse and teaches the nursing courses for the program. Estep teaches the science courses. Debbie Fussell, not pictures, also teaches courses and is a registered nurse. The instructors talked about a few unique things they do within the program, such as Estep using virtual reality software to teach anatomy and physiology. Students are able to virtually go inside the human body with this software, she said. This program also has several partnerships in the district with hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living centers in which students complete clinical hours as a part of it. Students are also given job shadow opportunities to gain more experience. They said seniors will do a work study/internship the last six weeks during the spring. Lions Club members also discussed their upcoming annual meat sale. They tabbed March 25 as delivery date for the sale, which helps them with their local civic projects. Orders can be made through any Lions Club member. [Photo provided]
