CW5 Kale to speak at Memorial Day service
Chief Warrant Officer Five (Retired) Jim Kale will serve as the guest speaker at Monday’s Memorial Day Service at Kingfisher Cemetery.
Kale is post commander for Kingfisher’s Keith Lowry- Henry Ellyson American Legion Post 5, which annually presents the program at the cemetery.
The ceremony begins at 10 a.m.
Kale began his 28-year active duty service entering U.S. Army basic training in October 1968 at Fort Polk, La.
After basic training, Kale began flight training at Fort Wolters, Texas, and graduated first in his class of 185, at Fort Rucker, Ala., in September 1969.
Kale’s flying assignments in the U.S. Army included two one-year assignments in Vietnam, a one-year assignment in Korea and a four-year assignment with his family in Germany.
He also had assignments in the United States at Fort Sill, Fort Rucker, Fort Meade, Md., and the Boeing helicopter factory in Philadelphia, Pa.
He has flown U.S. Army helicopters in 11 countries on three continents.
During his flying career, he flew large cargo helicopters, small training helicopters and med-evac helicopters for a total of over 11,000 flying hours.
He retired from the U.S. Army in September 1996 after 28 years active duty.
He then served as a contract flight instructor at the U.S. Army Aviation School for another 19 years.
He currently resides with his wife, Georgia, in Kingfisher, where both were born.
Kale will start the ceremony with a welcome address prior to the invocation by Post 5 Chaplain Jim Butcher and Chaplain Emeritus John Hopkins, Jr.
The National Anthem will be sung by the Vocal Sounds of Oklahoma.
The a cappella ensemble will also perform the “Armed Forces Medley,” “America Medley” and “Grand Old Flag” at various points during the ceremony.
After Kale provides his main address, he will be joined by Auxiliary President Gladys Hopkins for the ceremonial wreath laying at the Kingfisher County Military Service Memorial.
The Post 5 firing squad will provide the “Salute to the Dead” with Ken Tollison commanding.
After the playing of “Taps” and Kale’s closing remarks, Butcher will offer the benediction.
