Deadline nears to register to vote in April 1 election
The last day to apply for voter registration in order to be eligible to vote in the April 1 is approaching.
That deadline is Friday, March 7.
The election will decide municipal seats in Dover, Hennessey and Okarche for Kingfisher County.
In Dover, three people filed for the two trustee seats that carry four-year terms: Rena Walters, 37; Angela Kubat, 54; and James Mike Walters, 72.
Two people also filed for the pair of two-year unexpired seats that were open: Brenda McNulty, 63, and Calvin Dhonde, 39.
Hennessey voters will have multiple decisions to make.
Five people filed for the two four-year seats up for election on the town’s board of trustees: Miguel Hernandez, 31; Tim Riddle, 63; David O. Jones, 68; Harold Shaw, 58; and Evelyn Ramirez, 22.
Shaw is currently the mayor and Jones is also an incumbent on the board.
Two people filed for the two-year unexpired term that has opened up: Frank Patton, 65, and John Peach, 73.
There also were two people to file for the town treasurer position: Incumbent Shelley Burch, 51, and Kelley Vaverka, 59.
Filing in Canadian County for the Okarche Town Board of Trustees Office No. 2 were Keith E. Griesel, 47, and Judd K. Kroener, 53.
JD Mueggenborg, 43, was the lone person to file for Office No. 4 while Brian Schieber, 50, was the only person to file for town treasurer.
Some Kingfisher County voters also fall within the boundaries of Cimarron, Drummond and Piedmont school districts, which are also having elections for board of education seats.
Kingfisher County Election Board Secretary Shawna Butts said that persons who are United States Citizens, residents of Oklahoma, and at least 17 ½ years old are eligible to apply for voter registration.
However, you must be at least 18 years old to vote.
Applications must be received by the County Election Board or postmarked no later than midnight on March 7.
Applications postmarked after that time will be accepted, but will not be processed until after the April 1 election.
Applications may also be submitted to any motor vehicle agency that is also an official voter registration agency by the submission deadline.
Applicants will be notifi ed in writing when their application has been processed.
Approved voters will receive a Voter Identification Card in the mail. Some may receive a letter that explains the reason or reasons the application was not approved.
Butts said those who do not receive a response within 30 days of submitting their application should contact the County Election Board office immediately.
The Kingfisher County Election Board reminds voters that applications must be approved by the Election Board secretary in order to vote.
Registered voters who have moved to Kingfisher County from a different county or state will need to complete a new Voter Registration Application in order to be eligible for elections in Kingfisher County.
If you have moved within the county and need to update your address, you may make changes online using the OK Voter Portal at oklahoma.gov/elections/ ovp or complete a Voter Registration Application.
Voter Registration Applications can be downloaded from the State Election Board website at oklahoma. gov/ elections.
You may also complete a form at your County Election Board. Most post offices, tag agencies and public libraries have applications available upon request.
The Kingfisher County Election Board is located at 101 S. Main St., Room 8 and is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
