Deer intervenes to stop fleeing vehicle
A driver who led Oklahoma Highway Patrol on a high-speed chase southwest of Hennessey was arrested after his vehicle struck a deer and then caught fire Friday.
Blaine Allan Beaman, 25, 5498 N 2870 Road, Hennessey, was charged Monday in Kingfisher County District Court with attempting to elude a police officer, speeding and failure to wear a seatbelt, all misdemeanors.
At 10:58 p.m. Friday, OHP Trooper Jeff Jech attempted to stop Beaman, who was behind the wheel of a westbound white Mazda, for allegedly driving 76 mph in a 55 mph zone on E.660 Road.
Instead of stopping, Bea man’s vehicle “took off,” according to an OHP report, traveling in excess of 100 mph at one point, and then hit a deer about a half mile east of the N 2780 Road intersection.
The vehicle traveled a short distance south on N 2780 Road before coming to a stop. After Beaman was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody, Jech noticed flames coming from under the hood.
Hennessey Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire, but the car was a total loss, according to the report.
Beaman was released Monday on $4,000 bond and was scheduled to return to court Wednesday afternoon, according to online court records.
