Hennessey High School graduate Dr. Amara Detrick recently earned a doctorate of educational administration and leadership from Southern Nazarene University.

The daughter of Nick and Maribeth Boettler of Hennessey, Detrick graduated from HHS in 1997 and earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary and early childhood education from SNU in 2001 and a master’s of education in instructional literacy from UCO in 2006.

A 20-year career teacher, Detrick has taught at Kingfisher, Ringwood and Chisholm public schools and currently serves as assistant principal at Garfield Elementary School in Enid.

Her doctoral dissertation focused on the effects of authentic leadership on the implementation of a trauma-informed practice.

She and her husband Brad Detrick operate a ranch north of Ames and have six children and two grandchildren.
