Dover meats evaluation team state runner-up

The Dover FFA meat evaluation team was named state runner-up at the Oklahoma State FFA Interscholastics on May 5 at the Oklahoma State Animal Science Building. Pictured with FFA Adviser Ryan Burns (far left), team members are, from left: R.J. Harrison, Colton Burns, Evelyn Chavez and Erin Guinn. The team placed second for the second consecutive year, but this time is planning to compete at the National Western Contest in January in Denver, Colo. The national competition is awarded each year to the second place team while the first place team is awarded the National FFA Convention contest. Last year the first place team elected to take the National Western trip, so the Dover team was left out. This year the group has its chance to compete at its first national competition, a goal the team had been striving to achieve. Individually the team was led by Chavez, who was the the overall high individual scorer in the contest and was awarded a $1000 scholarship at the Oklahoma State FFA Convention last month at the BOK Center in Tulsa.
