DPSF awards grants to support teachers, classrooms

By

Several Dover educators are getting a boost this school year thanks to classroom grants from Dover Public School Foundation.

DPSF is a local nonprofit dedicated to supporting education and Dover students.

The organization recently awarded grants to teachers at Dover Public Schools to help fund creative classroom projects, hands-on learning materials and student enrichment activities.

“These grants are our way of showing appreciation for the dedication our teachers bring to their classrooms every day,” said Cathy Howard, DPSF board member and president.

“We want to give them extra resources to spark creativity and inspire their students.”

Teachers submitted applications describing how their projects would enhance learning.

Proposals ranged from STEM-based experiments and reading initiatives to art supplies and classroom technology.

This year’s grants totaled a little over $8,500.

DPSF was formed and began its teacher grant program in 1994 as part of its mission to strengthen local education and community involvement.

Since then, the nonprofit has awarded more than $200,000 in small classroom grants, directly impacting hundreds of students.

The group raises funds through annual can drives and private donations.

“Our goal is simple,” Howard said. “When we invest in teachers, we invest in our children and the future of Dover.”
