Daylight Saving Time returns to Kingfisher County and most of the nation at 2 a.m. Sunday.

DST originated in the U.S. on the theory that it would save energy.

When the sun sets later, it’s presumed people will stay outside later, thereby using less electricity for lights and appliances.

The only parts of the US that do not “spring forward Sunday are Hawaii, most of Arizona, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and American Samoa.

The Navajo nation in Arizona still observes the annual change to DST, even though the rest of the state does not.
