Educators Eischen, Schieber enter KHS Hall of Fame
Two new inductees were added to the Kingfi sher High School Hall of Fame last Saturday during commencement ceremonies.
Longtime KHS counselor Karla Eischen and accomplished KHS teacher Beth Schieber were announced as the new members.
They were introduced to the graduation crowd by KHS seniors Emily Myers and Xavier Ridenour.
Eischen served students as a counselor at KPS from 1993-2011 after 22 years at Okarche High School.
During her time here, she said a few proud accomplishments included establishing a guiding of groups focused on grief counseling, counseling for students from divorced families and counseling for self-harm inflictors.
Her work earned her the Regional Counselor of the Year honor in 2008. She earned Kingfisher Public Schools Teacher of the Year in 2009.
A 1966 graduate of Colony High School, Eischen earned a bachelor’s in secondary education in 1970 and a master’s in secondary education in 1972, both from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
Eischen in 1991 earned an administration certification from the University of Central Oklahoma and a master’s in guidance and counseling in 1992.
Her teaching career began in 1970 as the Family and Consumer Science teacher at Okarche. She was named the Regional Home Economics Teacher of the Year in 1990.
Two years later, she became a counselor at KHS and retired in 2011, but still remained working as a substitute teacher.
Schieber served students in the Kingfisher district from 1988 to 2013 where she taught reading, senior English, Advanced Placement English and English literature.
It was Schieber who established the AP English programs at KHS.
After graduating Lawton High School in 1967, Schieber earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from UCO in 1978 and a master’s in reading in 1979.
She earned certifications in grammar and composition and English literature in 1998.
Schieber garnered her National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) certification in adolescent and young adult English and language arts in 2000, becoming the first NBCT in Kingfisher.
Schieber sponsored Student Council for 24 years and founded the Student of the Month and Student of the Year programs. She served 17 years as senior class sponsor and was a prom sponsor for six years.
For her students who were interested in teaching, she founded the KHS Future Teachers of Amer-ica. She also founded the National English Honor Society.
Schieber was selectd KPS Teacher of the Year in 1990 and KHS Teacher of the Year in 1990, 2002 and 2003. Schieber was a 1990 finalist for the Oklahoma Foundation Medal of Excellence in Secondary Teaching.
While at KHS, she was an adjunct professor for Redlands Community College, teaching English composition classes for 11 years. She also taught Kingfisher GED classes for six years.
While serving students as a teacher here, Schieber was also a member of the Okarche Board of Education for 31 years, during which time she also had stints as regional director and president of the Oklahoma State School Boards Association.
She was also elected to the 1990 Oklahoma All-State Board of Education and awarded the 2010 Distinguished Service Award.
Schieber continues to tutor two days a week at Okarche Elementary School and is a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for children in Kingfisher County.
