Eight departments worked fire southeast of Hennessey Monday
Hennessey and seven other fire departments battled a fire southeast of town that covered about 105 acres of grass and brush land Monday, said Fire Chief Bert Gritz.
Firefighters went back there Tuesday morning to check for any hot spots, Gritz said.
Hennessey firefighters were at the scene for about 12 hours, according to the HPD radio log.
The fire was located 10 miles east and five miles south of Hennessey.
It was apparently caused by some sort of farm equipment, probably a baler, Gritz told the Times & Free Press.
He said a big part of the problem was a huge area of dense trees and brush.
The fire call came in to the Hennessey Police Department at 10:52 a.m. and Gritz requested assistance at 11 a.m. from Marshall, Covington and Pioneer departments, according to the HPD radio log.
Gritz said Crescent, Dover, Orlando and Douglas firefighters also responded.
Hennessey sent a command, one tanker and three brush pumpers to the scene.
Two of the brush pumpers returned after 10 p.m. and the other three after midnight.
Gritz said he did not know who owns that property.
