El Reno man killed in local car accident

By

An accident Tuesday morning near Kingfisher’s hospital resulted in the death of an El Reno man.

Hubert Bob Savell, 70, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which took place just after 10 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 81 and Kingfisher Regional Hospital Drive.

That road leads to Mercy Hospital Kingfisher.

According to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Savell was driving a 2018 Hyundai Elantra east on Kingfisher Regional Hospital Drive and attempting to turn left onto the highway.

The report, filed by Trooper Jeff Jech, states Savell failed to yield at the stop sign and pulled in front of a 2019 Toyota Highlander driven by Sarah Thornberry, 39, of Enid. That vehicle was southbound on U.S. 81.

Thornberry’s vehicle hit Savell’s vehicle in the driver’s door and both vehicles came to rest in the center median.

Jech’s report said seatbelts were in use in both vehicles.

Jech transported Thornberry to Mercy Hospital Kingfisher where she was treated for trunk injuries and released, according to the report.

The accident closed both southbound lanes for about 50 minutes before authorities were able to open up one of the lanes just before 11 a.m.

The roadway was completely opened just before noon.

The OHP was joined at the scene by Kingfisher Police Department, Kingfisher Sheriff’s Office and Kingfi sher Fire Department.
