Elks Hoop Shoot NW District Champions
Four Kingfisher County youth have won their second round of the Elks Hoop Shoot competition and have qualified for state. Kingfisher was the host site last Saturday of the Elks Northwest District Hoop Shoot. County shooters won four of the six divisions. In the top left photo, Brett Reese, a second grader at Dover, won the 8-9 year-old boys division by making 19 of 25 shots. He’s standing with Pressley Page, a third grader at Kingfisher, who won the 8-9 year-old girls division by knocking down 21 of 25. At the top right is Okarche sixth grader Tucker White, who won the 12-13 year-old boys division by making 23 out of 25. The bottom photo is Kingfisher fifth grader Brinkley Taylor, the winner of the 10-11 year-old girls division after she made 21 out of 25. Those four will now advance to the state competition, which is Feb. 3 in Dale. State champions will then advance to the Southwest Region 11 Semifinal to be held March 16 in Dallas against winners from Louisiana, New Mexico and Texas. The national finals are April 20 in Chicago, Ill. Also locally, Grace Mays was the 12-13 year-old girls’ runner-up by making 19 of 25 shots. She’ll be an alternate for the state competition.
