County provides 5 of top 40 freshmen of ’24; 2 plus daughter of KHS grad make top 10
The Oklahoma State University chapter of the Mortar Board honor society recently named students to its annual list of Top 20 Freshmen Men and Top 20 Freshmen Women for the 2023-24 class.
It also named the Top 10 Freshmen Men and Women.
“The Top 20 Men and the Top 20 Women were selected after grading 154 student applications,” said Gunar Aune, Mortar Board Top 10 coordinator. “These individuals completed a series of interviews to help select the Top 10 Men and the Top 10 Women.
“The Mortar Board was extremely impressed with the strong pool of candidates this year and is proud of all of the incredible student leaders who we were able to work with throughout the process.”
There was no shortage of Kingfisher County students – or those with county ties – named to the list.
Named Top 10 Women were:
• Alli Themer of Kingfisher High School, the daughter of Dennis and Tammy Themer. She is majoring in nutritional science.
• Madisyn Myers of Lomega High School, the daughter of Mike and Julie Myers. She is majoring in nutritional science.
• Gracie Maschmeier of Crossings Christian School, the daughter of Bill and Carrie (Combs) Maschmeier. Carrie is a KHS alumna. Gracie is also the granddaughter of Mike and Pam Combs of Kingfisher and is majoring in nutritional science.
Earning the honor of Top 20 were:
• Kyle Borelli of Kingfisher High School, the son of Greg and Vaynna Borelli. He is majoring in management.
• Ivy Hartman of Kingfisher High School, the daughter of Chad and Leah Hartman. She is majoring in applied exercise science.
• Cash Slezickey of Kingfisher High School, the son of Dave and Melissa Slezickey. He is majoring in applied exercise science.
Students selected for the honor are chosen based on scholarship, outstanding leadership and community service.
Students apply in their sophomore year based on achievement during their first year in college.
