Hennessey’s last Farmer’s Market of the season was scheduled Saturday, Sept. 25, Stacy Cline, president of Hennessey United, told that board at their Sept. 16 meeting.

The civic group started sponsoring the last Saturday of the month event in July and Cline said the market, located on the street outside her Wellness Mercantile, has brought lots of people to town.

Vendors love it and many have sold out of their items before the 2 p.m. closing time, she said.

The market will be started earlier next year.

Advance Tickets Circus

Dagan Hardin, the board’s Lions Club liaison, said the club is again sponsoring the Culpepper & Merriweather Circus.

He said they’ll be in Hennessey Thursday, Sept. 30 with shows at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the corner of Mitchell Road and Oklahoma Avenue.

He urged everyone to buy advance tickets to help out the Lions Club.

Halloween Plans

Hardin said Lions are also working the Hennessey library’s “Haunted Library” this year for Saturday night, Oct. 30, events.

He said Lions want to sponsor a movie in the library’s Ortman Theatre for youngsters, then a late-night scary movie for adults.

Hardin, who has wanted to stage a “zombie walk” in the past, said it’s unknown if that will work this year.

However, United will join others in downtown Hennessey Friday afternoon, Oct. 29, when businesses will have trick-or-treat for youngsters.

The board decided again this year to pass out Halloween candy and Cathy Howard, board secretary, said she’d ask United’s high school leadership students to also help.

Teresa Oliver, board vice president, said she’d get the candy and will see to it that United’s large trailer is parked in front of the Wellness Center that afternoon.

Resignation

The board accepted the resignation of member Mariana Gonzalez upon the reading of her resignation.

Gonzalez cited her busy schedule due to her job and her second year of college as the reason. She became a member of the board while she was a senior at HHS.

Other Reports

Howard was the only member who attended the recent Red Carpet Conference in Fairview and said she hopes next year others will attend.

She also wants to have a table there with brochures and information about the community.

She also reported on the use of United’s trailer in Dover for the Red Fork Days this month.

The trailer was not needed this year for Meet the Eagles.

Treasurer Tammy Lott-Hopkins gave the treasurer’s report, and the group discussed property insurance.

At the Meeting

Board members at the September meeting other than those mentioned above were Bert Gritz, Ashland Crites and Barb Walter. Also attending was Kim Gritz.

Absent were Wes Hardin, Scott Hajek, Kaden Mitchell and Gonzalez.
