Farmerettes hold September meeting
The Hennessey Farmerettes met Sept. 11 in the home of Kathy Patocka for its monthly meeting with 10 members and one guest present.
President Pansy Wheeler opened the meeting and the pledge of allegiance to the American flag was led by Vice President Paula Nicholson.
Mary Curry, who serves as chaplain, gave the devotion “God knows everything.”
Susan Engle, special guest at the meeting, was introduced and welcomed by members.
Roll call was answered by each member telling of where they first learned the pledge of allegiance.
Minutes of the August meeting were read by Secretary Margie McConnell and approved.
The treasurer’s report was also given by Treasurer Jamie Akenhead.
Thank you notes from Maxine Helgeson and Dot Miller were read to the group.
Members were reminded to submit reports to Wheeler of their time, money and gifts donated to help others, which will be provided to the Kingfisher County Oklahoma Home and Community Education office.
Miller, who serves as chairman of the county fair on home management, gave a report on the fair.
Nicholson presented items entered and ribbons won by members at the county fair and also showed members some of the items she had entered.
The club’s new bylaws were presented and approved.
Dues for the upcoming year are due Oct. 10.
The next meeting will be held Oct. 9 with Cheryl McClendon serving as hostess and Nicholson as lesson leader.
Nicholson reminded members to bring items to donate to the veterans hospital.
Some members discussed their experiences of participating in the recent Reality Check for Kingfi sher County juniors and seniors.
Helgeson led a patriotic lesson in which she served as teacher and members were students in her classroom.
She passed out copies of the Star-Spangled Banner and asked for her “students” to explain why and how the song was composed and became the national anthem.
Helgeson then passed out dollar bills to each member and discussed each word and picture and their significance.
Magnifying glasses were even provided to members so they could examine the small details on the dollar bills.
During Helgeson’s discussion, her voice, expressions and gestures elicited a greater appreciation of the national anthem and dollar bill.
The meeting was closed with Wheeler sharing her beautiful, cheerful, humorous and inspiring thoughts about “taking the good with the bad” from an article she had read.
