Farmerettes members gather for November meeting
Hennessey Farmerettes met at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at the First Christian Church for a salad luncheon and meeting.
The meeting was called to order by President Pansy Wheeler, who also led the pledge to the American flag.
Chaplain Mary Curry gave the devotion “The Pause to Pray.”
Roll call was answered by eight members, with one guest telling of her Native American heritage.
Secretary Margie Mc-Connell read the October meeting minutes and Dot Miller gave the treasurer’s report for Jamie Akenhead, who serves as treasurer. Both items were approved.
Paula Nicholson, Miller and Wheeler discussed information about the “Reality Check” program recently provided for Kingfisher County seniors and sophomores.
A volunteer form was provided for members to record money, time and items donated to help others since the previous meeting.
Miller reported on the County Council held Nov. 12, in which five members attended, with results to be discussed at a later date.
The next meeting will be held Dec. 12 at a restaurant in Enid where members will have a lunch together.
Members were encouraged to attend the planning meeting for Spring District in Watonga on March 22. Farmerettes will be in charge of registration.
Members decided the 2024 officers will hold the same positions for the 2025 year, with no installation being held.
Maxine Helgeson gave the lesson “Native American Food and Culture” and presented several Indian rugs, discussing the significance of each as well as more information about early Indians.
Helgeson also shared the legend of “The Three Sisters,” which was read by some of the members and several Indian items were also on display.
Nicholson was the hostess and served her special “fry bread” and “Three Sisters Stew” along with several salads provided by members.
The “Three Sisters Legend” and Indian recipes were provided to everyone in attendance.
The Quarter Drill was won by McConnell.
Prior to the meeting, members packaged craft items which will be donated to the Hennessey Library for children to assemble and enjoy.
Following the meeting, members worked on the scrapbook, with Wheeler providing many items for the activity.
