“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” – Romans 15:13
The biblical definition of hope is the sure and confident expectation of receiving what God has promised us now and in the future. This is the hope of every Christian. Our real hope is based on the fact that God in Christ grants us eternal life. That is God’s life in us. We are in relationship with God, and we can’t be separated. We are “confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6
Our hope is based not in ourselves, but in the God who loves us. We all suffer at times, and experience trouble in this world, but God is with us. When Christians around the world suffer persecution for their faith and face death, it is the certainty that the Holy Spirit lives inside them, that they are secure in him, that gives those Christians the strength and courage to face death. They know that when death comes, they will be in the presence of God.
If your life is filled with desperation and hopelessness, you can overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. It is a fact that as Christians we experience in this life the love, peace, hope and strength of God because we are his children. Cry out to Jesus. Trust in God. He will save and change you.
