First Time’s the Charm
At least five area children are first-time entrants and first-time winners at the Kingfisher County Free Fair. Hannah Weaver, age 7, top left, earned the reserve grand champion ribbon for her four-layer cake. Her 4-year-old sister Henley, right, won a blue ribbon for her Oklahoma flowers exhibit. The sisters are the daughters of Jacob and Katelyn Weaver of Hennessey. Sisters Lillian, 6, and Josie, 4, Cansler, bottom left photo, both brought home reserve grand champion ribbons. Lillian earned her award in glass art and Josie in canned fruit. The girls are the daughters of Megan and Matthew Cansler of Omega. Annie Wehba, bottom right photo, the 9-year-old daughter of Kim and Justin Wehba of Kingfisher, shows off her first-place watercolor painting. “Go big or go home” is the motto of all five girls, each of whom completed and entered multiple projects in various categories. It’s not too late to take in this year’s fair. Exhibits remain on display through 4 p.m. Saturday, livestock judging continues through 6:30 p.m. Saturday and food trucks will serve up tasty treats both Friday and Saturday. See last Wednesday’s edition for the full schedule and watch for fair results in all categories in future editions as they become available.
