A former Kingfisher woman died at a house near Skiatook Saturday, the victim of a suspected pit bull attack.

Osage County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched Saturday to an address west of Skiatook for a welfare check on Rebecca McCurdy, 28, who was reportedly house-sitting and taking care of the homeowner’s dogs.

When deputies arrived at the home, they found McCurdy dead in the garage, where several pitbulls were caged, according to a news release from the Osage County Sheriff’s Office.

The homeowner, who was not identified in the news release, told the sheriff’s office that “he raised pit bull dogs for hobby/sale,” according to the news release.

Sheriff’s office personnel are continuing their investigation and are awaiting a report from the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner’s Office.

The dogs suspected in the attack were removed from the home and are being held pending further investigation, according to the news release.

Prior to a recent relocation to Stillwater, McCurdy and her family lived in Kingfisher, where she worked for Heritage Pharmacy and Kingfisher Dental Design, led praise and worship at Kingfisher First Baptist Church and taught private piano lessons.
