Holiday events start Sunday, hit full steam Tuesday

A bulk of the Fourth of July festivities in Kingfisher are this Tuesday, but some of the fun begins Sunday.
The Little Mister and Miss Firecracker pageant is 4 p.m. Sunday, July 2, at Kingfisher Heritage School’s auditorium.
That will lead into the Tuesday holiday when the Kingfisher Chamber of Commerce has events planned all day as part of its “Red, White & Boomfest.”
Activities include:
• The downtown parade is at 10 a.m. and entries will go both ways down Main Street;
• Free swim at the Vernie Snow Aquatic Center from noon to 4 p.m.
• A variety of food and snack trucks will be at Kingfisher Park from 1 to 10 p.m.
• Home run derby at 1 p.m. at Homier Field (check-in begins at noon)
• Lions Club turtle races and the Rotary Club’s balloon toss and sack races start at 4 p.m. on Homier Field
• Kingfisher Educational Foundation’s Duck Race at 4 p.m. at Vernie Snow Aquatic Center (see story on Page 1)
• Free train rides from 4 to 7 p.m.
• Free face painting from 5 to 8 p.m.
• Coin dig at 6 p.m.
• Free watermelon at 7:30 p.m. at first base on the baseball field
• Free concert featuring the Finley River Boys from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Homier Field
• Fireworks show over Kingfisher Park at dusk Hennessey Events
The Town of Hennessey and Hennessey Lions Club are also sponsoring events there on the Fourth of July.
They include:
• Splash Pad open all day
• Food trucks between football and baseball field.
• Free swim from noon to 6 p.m.
• Cardboard and duct tape boat races at pool – Signup 4-5 p.m. only.
• Ping pong ball races follow boat races – $1 donation per ball with 1,000 balls available. Tickets at Town Hall or pool on race day. Winner shares half of donated money.
• Live music at football field at 8 p.m. featuring Matthew Streck, Amy Ackerman, Jimmy Berkenbile, Leon Hill, Drew McElhaney, Hladik Twins and Red River Dancers. Ish Ingle will get his head shaved as a benefit for Gage Caulder.
• Fireworks display at football field about 9:30 p.m. (at dusk).
