A fundraiser dinner and auction to assist Valerie Shamburg with medical expenses is scheduled Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Hennessey-Dover Community Building.

Shamburg is a longtime science teacher at Hennessey and Dover public schools who was diagnosed with leukemia in late August.

She is currently a patient at the OU Medical Cancer

Treatment Center.

Shamburg has taught high school science in Hennessey since 2012 until she began treatment last month.

She has been the high school Student Council sponsor for most, if not all, of those years, and taught science in Dover from 1986-2012.

She is a 1979 HHS graduate and later graduated from Phillips University with a bachelor’s degree in science.

Fundraiser Schedule

Musical entertainment will start at 4:30 p.m. and a meal of hamburger, chips and water will be served at 5 p.m. by donation.

Carry-out or delivery will also be available by donation.

There will be a live auction, as well as a silent auction.

Donated items for the auction may be taken to the Cow Palace from noon until 4 p.m. the day of the event.

The fundraiser is spon sored by the Hennessey Community Action Team (CAT), Seaboard Foods and HHS Student Council members who are working with CAT in the planning. Students will also help the day of the fundraiser, said Jimmy Berkenbile, CAT president.

Cash donations may be taken to Community State Bank and should be made out to CAT with Shamburg noted in the memo.
