Gay Means Chambers felt the need for a group in the Hennessey community for lonely or grieving people to meet, visit, share ideas, comfort, socialize and have fellowship.

She advertised such a meeting on Oct. 15 at Family Cafe and 15 people attended.

At the meeting, the Golden Eagles was chosen as the name of the group.

Twelve attended the Oct. 19 meeting where officers were elected: Wanda Choate, president; Doris Schulz, secretary; Theresa Poteet Helm, treasurer; and Richard Simunek to back up any officers not president.

Simunek gave the program on antiques, showing all kinds of irons, country doctors’ bags and equipment and more.

The Nov. 2 meeting was attended by 14 members with Choate giving the opening prayer. Secretary and treasurer reports were given.

Members voted to collect $2 each meeting from members to start building a gas fund for day trips.

A motion was made and seconded that three of the officers would count the money each meeting and the amount would be entered in both secretary’s and treasurer’s books.

Barbara Streck gave a report on blue sweatshirt or t-shirt prices from Megan Choate. A blue long sleeve t-shirt with the golden eagle belonging to Betty Choate was displayed.

Tammy Patocka, activities director, reported on different day trips the group could take and availability of transportation.

After discussion, it was decided Patocka would check on Chickasha Festival of Light and the Kingfisher parade, fireworks and lights.

Ricky Pitts won the door prize made by Chambers. The door prize winner gets to bring the prize for the next meeting.

Margie McConnell gave a review of her cruise down the Mississippi River from Nashville to New Orleans. The river cruise - now $6,000 - is higher than the ocean cruises.

Lily Rourke will bring something about quilting to the next meeting.
