Golf groups donate $8k to local causes
Local golfers continue to contribute to local causes.
The Kingfisher Golf Association held its ninth annual Benefit Golf Tournament last month to raise funds for selected groups.
This year’s benefactors were Kingfisher Meals on Wheels and the Kingfisher Community Collaborative.
Gary Wilson, manager and club pro at Kingfisher Golf Course, recently presented checks for $3,000 to each organization.
The funds came from the entry fees in the tournament as well as additional money contributed by the KGA.
In addition to that $6,000, the Kingfisher Women’s Golf Association also is donating $1,000 to each group.
Several KWGA members take part in the benefit tournament, but the group also hosts an annual two-lady scramble to help raise funds (See ad on Page 13 of this edition.)
With this year’s funds, the benefit tournament has raised more than $75,000 for causes during its nine years.
“We just want to be able to give back to our community,” Wilson said. “There are a lot of us out here who love to play golf and we know we’re fortunate to be able to do so. If we can find a way to just give a little something back to those who need it right now, we’re happy to find a way to do it.”
