Golfers donate over $12K to local groups

By

Two local groups who spend countless hours helping others were on the receiving end of kindness recently.

Local golfers gathered May 3 for the Kingfisher Golf Association Benefi t Golf Tournament. All the funds raised from the four-person scramble as well as extra contributions made by the KGA and the Kingfisher Women’s Golf Association, were donated to the Jacket Pantry and Kingfisher County Meals on Wheels.

The KGA presented checks of $3,750 to each organization while the KWGA contributed checks of $2,500 to each.

All told, $12,500 was donated this year.

“Both of those groups provide such an important service to our local community,” said Gary Wilson, the club pro and manager at Kingfisher Golf Course, who organized the event each year.

“It’s important to us as group to do what we can to support them and this has been a great way to do that each year.”

Meals on Wheels delivers meals to the county’s elderly and homebound residents multiple times a week.

Jacket Pantry provides food assistance to students of Kingfisher Public Schools and their families.

Both depend on donations to keep their shelves stocked and to get the food delivered.

“We’re honored to support groups who provide the community with such great services,” said Trish Ludwig, president of the KWGA. “It’s important to take care of those who might need a little extra help, so we wanted to make sure to support the fantastic people who make it happen.”

This was the 10th year of the benefit tournament. The KWGA also hosts a tournament each year.

To date, the groups have donated $87,500 to local groups and charities over the years.
