Governor sets dates to elect commissioner

By

Governor J. Kevin Stitt has called a special election to fill the District 3 seat of the Kingfisher County Commission that will soon be vacant.

The special primary election will be held Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024.

The special general election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024.

Filing period begins at 8 a.m. Monday, May 6, and ends 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 8.

The election became necessary when Heath Dobrovolny recently announced he is resigning his seat.

The resignation is effective Friday, April 19.

Dobrovolny has served on the county commission since January 2019 and has worked for Kingfisher County since October 2009.

“My wife and I have both been offered opportunities that will benefit our family, so that’s our motivation,” Dobrovolny told the Times & Free Press.

Anthony Schwarz, currently the District 3 first deputy, will serve as Dobrovolny’s replacement on an interim basis until the seat is filled at the election.

Those interested in becoming a candidate for the office may obtain an official filing packet at the Kingfisher County Election Board or download a packet from the State Election Board website at oklahoma.gov/ elections.

The Kingfisher County Election Board is located at 101 S. Main St., Room 8.

Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
