Hajek purchases land for development ‘in the future’

Two tracts of cropland north of State Highway 51 in Hennessey on U.S. Highway 81 were purchased at auction last Friday by Scott Hajek of Hennessey.

The sale price was $670,000 for the two tracts that total 137.56-plus acres, according to Lippard Auctioneers’ website.

Hajek told the KT&FP he plans to “farm it for now, but will be developing it in the future.”

He is currently developing property north of S.H. 51 in Hennessey across from the Pizza Hut for a Family Dollar Store and a meat processing plant north of that location.

Hajek is also a farmer and businessman who lives on S.H. 51 near the property he purchased.

The sale did not include minerals and possession of the property is after the 2022 wheat harvest.

Sellers

Sellers are Elizabeth Black and Janet Schenck, who both live out of state.

“They are the daughters of Wilfred Kokojan,” said Hajek, who is known as Hennessey’s historian.

Hajek said Kokojan’s father bought that land in 1945.

Property location

Tract one has 129 acres on the west side of U.S. 81 and includes a pie-shape tract west of the railroad tracks.

The property has U.S. 81 access and county road access on the north and west, according to the realtor’s information.

The farm produced 69.9 bushel wheat in the 2021 harvest, according to the County Farm Service Agency.

Tract two has eight acres and is a pie-shape property on the east side of U.S. 81 with frontage to that highway.

The legal description is NE/4 of Section 13, Township 19 North, Range 7 W.I.M.
