Skies broke clear Thursday morning in Kingfisher County, giving hope that the rain-stalled wheat harvest can resume.

The forecast called for a chance of thunderstorms on Friday then clearing weather for the next several days.

Local Weather Observer Steve Loftis reported .15 inch of moisture Thursday morning from an overnight shower.

Friday dawned clear, again, with no measurable precipitation reported locally. Some local gauges recorded .3 inch on Monday. Others were all less.

CHS Elevator in Okarche reported taking a little bit of wheat late Thursday.

Randall Varnell at Wheeler Brothers Elevator in Kingfisher reported sampling quite a few loads of wheat (for moisture) during the day Thursday and then getting busy after 5 p.m.

CHS elevator at Hennessey took in no wheat Thursday but felt hopeful harvest would resume there Friday.

The Hennessey elevator received numerous samples Thursday but none dry enough to accept. Test weights continued in the 50-and 60-pounds-per-bushel range.

Okarche Grain and Feed, west of Okarche, reported receiving lots of test loads but accepting only one late Thursday.

Cashion Grain and Feed Elevator still waited for drying conditions to begin receiving wheat, hopefully Friday, Manager John Schaefer said. A few loads had arrived before the last showers but a majority of fields still need drying conditions.
