Hennessey’s storm sirens are down, phone storm warnings still work
A quick fix of Hennessey’s 50- to 60-year-old storm sirens is underway after a test failed last week, and $171,616 in long-term repairs are in the works.
The town’s Red Code storm warning cell and landline alert call system is up.
It’s free and sign up is available on the town’s website, or at Town Hall.
“The sirens work,” said Mayor Bert Gritz, but are linked to telephone lines, he said at Thursday night’s town trustee meeting. A downed phone line was found during the test in the south section of town, which caused none of the sirens to work, Gritz said.
The old sirens will be reprogrammed and should be up and working in two or three weeks, trustees were told.
They approved $5,000 to Kaleb Hladik of Farmer’s Electric to make the immediate fix and $171,616.80 to Chickasaw Personal Communications for a new system. The new system will be installed in the early summer or fall.
