Hennessey adds wrestling programs
It has been discussed for the past two years but now Hennessey will start a wrestling program. That’s according to the list of coaching assignments made by the school board after a two hour executive session during their Monday, July 12 meeting.
Coach Korey Walker will be the head coach for both the high school and middle school boys and girls wrestlers, and Evan Sprayberry will be the assistant coach. Walker also works with the wrestlers and football players this summer.
Patrons who are supporters of the program have attended previous meetings in support of a wrestling program.
Girls’ basketball job open
Although not all extra duty athletic assignments were filled at that meeting, including the high school girls basketball coach and assistant coach, the stipends for all assignments were included on an approved list. This year’s athletic stipends total $141,150, and includes Coach Paul Hix’s $9,000 stipend as athletic director. The initial athletic stipends last year totaled $145,850, and the year before were $145,650.
