Hennessey board of ed votes to buy house located in corner of school’s Walnut parking lot

After about 30 minutes in executive session Monday night, the Hennessey Board of Education voted to pay $55,000 for property located at 519 E. Kansas.

The land includes a 1,140 square foot house and sale agreement requires sellers to pay for asbestos removal as called for in an asbestos abatement report. Nathan Greenfield, an owner of that property, attended the board meeting, and was invited into the board’s closed-to-the-public session.

The house on the 10,500 square foot property is located in the southeast corner of the school’s parking lot on the west side of Walnut Street.

The house was built in 1958 and it faces Kansas Street and borders Walnut Street.

The board did not discuss how the property will be used.

Board members had also discussed the purchase in a closed session last month.

Other Actions

Earlier in the meeting, the board approved the 2025-26 school calendar, but a copy was not available at the meeting.

It will be posted on the school’s website this week.

In personnel action, board members voted to hire Amber Beaman as a daycare worker for the remainder of the school year and accepted resignations from Rosa Garcia, a custodian, and Minzy Trillo, a daycare worker.

At the Meeting

All board members were present for the 41-minute January meeting: President Patrick Griffin, Vice President Dr. James M. Matousek, Clerk Luke Lough and members Dakota Semrad and Amy Charmasson.

Also at the board table were Superintendent Jason Sternberger and Timberly Jech, board minutes clerk and school business manager.

Principals at the meeting were Ricardo Tarango, middle school; Barry Crosswhite, elementary, and Stacey Mack, early childhood center.
