Hennessey board hires athletic trainer from Texas, rehires other 2023-24 staff

Chelsea Hoeltzel was hired as athletic trainer for next school year by the Hennessey Board of Education during its noon Monday meeting.

She is from Texas, but if her last name sounds familiar to some it’s because her grandfather, Gerald Hoeltzel, was the Oklahoma State Superintendent of Schools in the 1990s, and before that was the school superintendent in Waukomis, Covington and Watonga.

She also told the KT&FP Monday that she also has a sister who lives in Crescent and her parents live in Fairview.

Hoeltzel will replace Kylee Warne who has been the HPS trainer since 2019.

Experience – The newly- hired trainer lives in Sherman, is currently the trainer at S&S Consolidated ISD in Sadler, Texas. Before working there she was an outreach athletic trainer 2019-22 at the Children’s Health Andrews Institute in Plano, Texas.

She worked with rehab patients from 2018-19 at Peak Physical Therapy VA in VanAlstyne, Texas, and was a temporary trainer at Guthrie High School in 2013, when their trainer was on medical leave.

Training – Midwestern State University, Wichita Falls, 2019-May 2023, currently working on master’s in healthcare services administration; Midwestern, 2009-13, bachelor’s, athletic training; Howard College, Big Springs, 2007-09, athletic training scholarship; Centennial High School (National Honor Society), Frisco, 2003-2007.

Certifications – TSATA Sports Medicine Instructor, 2019-present; CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Healthcare Providers Instructor, 2016; Licensed Athletic Trainer, August 2013-present. Texas Girls Coaches Assn. All-Star Athletic Trainer 2018.

Resignations

Superintendent Jason Sternberger said Thursday will be the last day for HHS head football coach Paul Hix, and announced the resignation of Brittney Ramirez as a paraprofessional/ aide. Hix has accepted the same position at Locust Grove.

All board members were present: President Luke Lough, Patrick Griffin, Clerk David Tillman, Dr. James Matthew Matousek, and new board member, Amy Charmasson. Also at the board table was Superintendent Jason Sternberger and Office Manager Timberly Jech who also served as recording clerk.

In the audience was Amber Koehn, a Hennessey Educational School Foundation trustee.

April meeting date

The board usually meets the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m., but this month met the first Monday. It will also meet at noon the first Monday in April.
