Hennessey Farmerettes, guests gather for April meeting

By

The Hennessey Farmerettes met April 14 at the Methodist Church in Hennessey.

Jamie Akenhead served as hostess and lesson leader.

An Easter egg and a packet of seeds were at each persons’ place when they arrived for the meeting.

There were 10 members present along with special guest, Lindy Peterman of the Kingfisher County Extension Office, as well as Christie and Joyce, daughters of Billie Melendy.

Several group pictures were taken for OHCE Week.

President Dot Miller opened the meeting by leading the flag salute.

Roll call was answered by each member telling if they eat too much sugar and if they are trying to eat less.

Guests were given special introductions.

The minutes of the March meeting were read and approved.

Mary Curry gave the devotion, “Heaven’s Grocery Store.”

Pansy Wheeler shared the Magnolia Creed.

The treasurer’s report was given.

Information about Best Choice labels was provided and Margie McConnell was given some aluminum can tabs to be donated to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.

Those who went to the district meeting were Miller, Melendy and Akenhead, who gave reports on what they learned.

Peterman told of a special project she’s working on, which is to have a virtual membership for members who cannot attend regular meetings and still enjoy the benefits of belonging to HCE.

She also told of special volunteer classes being set up to help others.

All members were asked to keep a list of all their volunteering, no matter for what, and the hours donated to be included in the OHCE Week report.

Miller read several tidbits of information from the Extension newsletter.

McConnell will make a list for OHCE Week, collecting information from everyone about their time spent donating for others and the events.

Wheeler is the member selected to participate in the OHCE live panel.

Melendy won the quarter drill.

The meeting was adjourned and Akenhead gave an informative lesson on diet and inflammation and what members can do to enjoy better health.

Ice cream and cake were served.

The three guests were presented with gifts.
