Hennessey hires children’s librarian in time for ‘Littlest Patron Playtime’
Ruby Rodriguez, 21, Hennessey’s new children’s librarian, is looking forward to this Wednesday, March 22.
That’s when the Hennessey Public Library will re-start its weekly Littlest Patron Playtime from 10-11 a.m.
Playtime includes reading books to children, crafts and games for ages 3 and younger, and Rodriguez said also she’s already looking at the summer children’s programs.
Rodriguez was hired by the Hennessey Board of Trustees during the March 9 meeting after a brief executive session.
Usually an executive session isn’t necessary for hirings, but since the new librarian is married to a town employee, it was required. She is married to Alyssa Kubat, the town’s street superintendent.
Library Director Steven Mitchell said Rodriguez started work March 13 and it’s great to have her on staff.
Also, he reminds that library hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday except 10 a.m.-6 p.m. the first and third Fridays for training.
The new staffer came to Hennessey from Mexico with her parents, Javier and Mayra Rodriguez, when she was 3 years old.
She speaks fluent English and Spanish and graduated from Hennessey High School in 2020.
While in school she was on the Mercy Hospital Student Career Council, ran track and cross country for three years and won honors in algebra for two years.
After high school, she attended NOC in Enid for a semester, worked at 81 Express, then her father’s business (J.R. Construction) and, most recently, ViaCore Nutrition in Kingfi sher.
